Estonia signed a Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty with Uzbekistan
Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet and Uzbekistan Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov signed a Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty between Estonia and Uzbekistan on September 30, 2012.
Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Urmas Paet mentioned that Estonia also wishes to sign an investment incentive agreement between Estonia and Uzbekistan in the near future. Estonia is also interested in signing a road transport agreement with Uzbekistan.
Urmas Paet commented that naming Estonian Ambassador in Uzbekistan in 2011 has helped the improvement of communications between Estonia and Uzbekistan. Estonia has invited Uzbekistan delegation in Estonia for the year 2013 to hold political consultations. Estonia is also interested in naming an honorary consul in Uzbekistan.
The foreign ministers of both countries also discussed Estonia’s experience with reforms during the official visit. Urmas Paet mentioned that Estonia is willing to share its experience in reforming social security and pension system, also in regard to the reforms to the public and economic sector with Uzbekistan. Estonia is interested in cooperation with universities in Uzbekistan and willing to share its experience in vocational education. The possible areas of cooperation are also agriculture and environmental protection.
The double taxation treaty will need to be ratified by the Estonian Parliament and go through the internal proceedings in Uzbekistan to come into force. Currently no known date of enforcement is available.
